Thank You Bridge Road ELC for running a School Readiness Book Drive
We would like to thank the wonderful parent and teacher community of Bridge Road Early Learning Centre in Richmond for collecting over 50 books through a book drive for vulnerable children.
Ardoch has pledged to provide School Readiness Packs to 1,100 Australian children from disadvantaged communities who start school in 2017. Each School Readiness Pack included 4-5 books, few activities and an Ardoch School Costs guide to help parents meet the cost of schooling.
Research suggests that reading books can play a critical role in the literacy and language development of children. It encourages a smoother transition to school life, and helps set children on a positive trajectory of learning. Having easy access to good books improves children’s comfort with reading and also encourages parents to read regularly to the children at home.
Ardoch turned towards Australia’s generous community to raise over 5,000 age-appropriate books for the children. Many companies, schools, libraries and community organisations have come forward to support Ardoch’s School Readiness Book Drive. Bridge Road Early Learning Centre ran a book drive at its Richmond Centre all through August encouraging its parent community to donate books for vulnerable children.
Bayside Library Service is also running a book drive between October 3 and 21. You can drop off books at the Brighton, Sandringham, Hampton and Beaumaris libraries.
You can also run a book drive at your own workplace or community centre. Find out why and how here.
